Over The Wall Camp receives funding for exciting new project
Everyone at Over The Wall Camp is celebrating, as the charity has been awarded a whopping £187,065 in National Lottery funding! The money will part-fund a new project; Enhancing Volunteer Experience, and will be given to Over The Wall Camp over the next three years as part of the National Lottery’s Reaching Communities programme.
Enhancing volunteer experience
Our volunteers are at the heart of Over The Wall Camp. Without them, camp couldn’t happen. Our clinical volunteers deliver medical care, and the whole team help keep campers safe, run activities, and create hundreds of moments of mischief and magic. And they do it all with an abundance of positivity, warmth and enthusiasm.
Recognising the invaluable time and support our volunteers give the charity, we want to make sure we give something back to them, and that their experience is just as magical as our campers’! Our new project, Enhancing Volunteer Experience, will help us implement new ways to do this.
The project starts in November 2024 and will strengthen our fantastic volunteering team. Preparations have already allowed us to welcome an Assistant Camp Director for Volunteering to the team! Emily, who recently joined us in this new role, is based in the West Midlands, not far from our new home in Ockbrook. The funding will also contribute towards Volunteer Coordinator positions in the midlands and the south.
Emily shared “I have loved joining the team and feel fortunate to have done so at such an exciting time for Over The Wall Camp. A highlight for me so far has been meeting our incredible volunteers and seeing the difference they make for so many children and young people with health challenges. We are looking forward to hearing more from both newer and seasoned volunteers about their time at camp, what they have learned from volunteering with us, and how we can improve their experience even further.”
Securing this significant grant for Over The Wall Camp
Amy, our Grants & International Funders Manager, has been working on the funding application for almost a year, and her dedication has secured this significant amount for Over The Wall Camp.
Amy explained, “We are incredibly grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for supporting our project to enhance the volunteer experience at Over The Wall Camp throughout the next three years. This funding will allow us to continue to improve our volunteering programme, based on the feedback of those who know it best: our volunteers”.
“By enhancing the process for both new and returning volunteers, we aim to expand our family of volunteers and as a result, welcome even more children living with health conditions to camp. Thank you to the Reaching Communities programme and the National Lottery players for helping to recognise the wonderful contribution of our volunteers and enabling more children and families to rediscover the fun and magic of childhood.”
From Over The Wall Camp, a huge thank you to everyone involved in granting us this funding. We can’t wait to update you as this exciting new project progresses!
