Over The Wall’s new virtual initiative – Camp in the Cloud – has hit the limelight while featuring on ITV Meridian News and BBC Midlands Today.
This summer more than 1,000 children with serious illnesses should have had the chance to attend one of our 15 residential activity camps, but because of the current pandemic, these life-changing camps had to be cancelled.
Not to be deterred, we set about creating a virtual offering, recreating much of the physical camps online and successfully launched a new platform last month.
OTW camper, David, was due to attend our Midlands camp this year, but due to the pandemic, accepted his place on Camp in the Cloud instead. David suffers from Sickle Cell anaemia and is often in huge amounts of pain. He spoke to the BBC about his experience with Over The Wall, making friends, and now his time on Camp in the Cloud. Similarly, we should have been welcoming back to camp OTW camper, Sean, who suffers from multiple serious allergies that affect much of his life. Sean relished the chance to try camp virtually this year and was interviewed by an ITV news crew – watch below:
