A star-studded line up of guests recently attended the first ever ‘Campfire Bash’ to celebrate the work of the SeriousFun Children’s Network at the Tobacco Dock, London.
Hosted by Rosie Tapner, the evening included high profile attendees and celebrity performances from Steve Coogan, Diane Birch, Damien Rice, Charlie Siem, Christiane Amanpour and Britain’s Got Talent Winners (2019), Twist and Pulse, with DJ Pips Taylor taking to the decks after the dinner and show. A silent auction also took place to raise money for the Network.
Clea Newman, the youngest daughter of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, and ambassador for SeriousFun, co-chaired the evening of camp-inspired fun. Guests enjoyed a champagne reception around the campfire along with camp-themed games and activities.
Former Over The Wall camper, fundraiser, ambassador and general supporter of OTW, Cara Tavendale was also at the event. Cara spoke about her experiences of camp, sang and played the piano, performing Annie Lennox’s ‘Universal Child’ whilst her sister, Shoni Tavendale spoke about the benefits of camp, having previously been a sibling camper.
Cara said, “I had so much fun performing and representing the most amazing charity, Over The Wall. I was very happy to be on stage performing and it was so lovely to have my sister there with me, to help tell our family’s story before I sang. Over The Wall has provided so much love and support to my family for many years, helping us get through some very tough times. For me it is so important to now give that support back to them. Camp gave us back fun and laughter and it is so important that we provide that to other families who are going through similar situations to ourselves.”
As a fundraiser, Cara has raised over £12k for Over The Wall.
Steve Coogan spoke at the event and commented, “Because of the SeriousFun Children’s Network, courage grows within every kid, at every camp, in every country. That’s what tonight’s all about. That’s what this network is all about, campers from all over the world singing a song of courage that began so many years ago around a campfire. Those voices have gone global, and that song is stronger and louder, than ever.”
